Office Depot is planning to open a new division in the Austin area, bringing more than 200 jobs to the region, according to a story from the Austin Chamber of Commerce. The company is starting a new inside sales organization and has chosen our area for the launch. The decision came in part due to contributions being offered to Office Depot through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF). TEF will provide $300,000 in investments to the company to help lure the new division.
The specific location of the new program has not been announced, but the TEF award is contingent upon the Williamson County Commissioners Court approval of the incentives. So, the location will be somewhere in the northern metropolitan area, a very welcome addition of new jobs for an area that needs more economic development.
Mark Sprague, Director of Business Development for Mission Mortgage, has stated publicly numerous times that the housing market in Williamson County has suffered from more foreclosures and is more challenged for sales right now than the rest of our area. Thus, new jobs will help bring more real estate activity, giving a boost to their local market.
Office Depot has not announced what types of positions will be available, but because it will be based on inside sales, the program will most likely involve call center operations, sales, and support.
Mission Mortgage of Texas welcomes the new division of Office Depot to the Austin Metropolitan Area and we wish them nothing but success!
