This feature highlights four events or activities in Austin and the surrounding area every week. If you have suggestions for events to be mentioned, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
1. If you like your sushi west-coast style, check out Bar Chi’s late night reverse happy hour starting at 10 pm every night. Enjoy discount pricing on sushi, yakitori skewers, appetizers and select drinks while the lights flash and the DJ pumps out the tunes. Fridays and Saturdays are the liveliest. Bar Chi is located at 3rd and Colorado in Downtown Austin. For restaurant information, click here.
2. The Austin Children Academy will host a Back to School Festival on Saturday. Enjoy a fashion show, slot car track, recording studio, cupcake decorating and more. Click here for more information. Wendy read our Four Things a couple weeks ago and added a comment about this event, so we thought we’d show our appreciation for her suggestion by making it one of our Four Things this week. Thanks Wendy, for posting this event on our blog!
3. Jack Nicholson’s outstanding performance in The Shining comes back to the big screen next Tuesday and Wednesday at The Paramount. Go have some fun, after all, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” The snowy scenes shot in Estes Park, Colorado might even help you to forget the hundred-degree heat we’ve been enjoying for the past month. The Shining was written by Stephen King and Directed by Stanley Kubrick. Also staring Shelley Duval and Catman Crothers. For more, click here.
4. Looking for some live music recommendations? We suggest Iron and Wine at the Paramount Theatre on Friday, the Austin Classical Guitar Society show featuring Juan Carlos Laguna and Marianne Gedigian at the Mexican American Cultural Center on Saturday, Exit Wonderland at Lucky Lounge on Saturday, and the Old 97’s at Blues on the Green next Wednesday.
