Austin’s Most Expensive Home

This week came news that Candy Spelling’s enormous home in Bel Air, California was sold. It was reported as the most expensive home listing in the U.S. when it hit the market in 2009 and finally found a buyer. The home is said to encompass 56,500 square feet on 4.7 acres and was listed at $150 million.  The buyer is 22-year old Petra Ecclestone, daughter of F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, according to a story in the Los Angeles Times.

Seeing that story got us to wondering. What is the most expensive home currently for sale in Austin?  Of course, we are limited by the data and information that is available to the public, so those listings that aren’t listed on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) system, which can be accessed using www.austinhomesearch.com, are not included in our research.  Known as ‘pocket listings’, some sellers choose not to have their home entered into the MLS, so they remain unviewable by the general public.  Of those in the MLS, we found our answer…

Austin’s Most Expensive Home

Doing a quick search led us to two homes both listed for sale at $12,000,000.  That’s a far cry from the asking price for the Spelling mansion, but still worthy of some oohs and aaahs. Let’s take a look at these two homes:

The first home is a 12,174 square foot, lakefront home on Lake Austin in the Greenshores neighborhood.

The home features 9 bedrooms, 11 full baths and 2 half baths, and an indoor pool. Looking through the pictures we can see that the home boasts incredible finishes, multiple fireplaces, an exercise room, and a boat house with guest quarters on the second level. The house sits on a 6.328 acre property and is currently listed for sale by Laura Gottesman of Gottesman Residential Real Estate.

The second home is on the golf course at Barton Creek and offers 13,615 square feet of living space on over 4 acres.

This home has 7 bedrooms, 5 full baths and 5 half baths, and a negative edge pool. Great views of the golf course and the hill country terrain, it was built in 2002. Looking through the photos, we can see multiple fireplaces, an enormous kitchen with beamed ceilings, intricate stone and wood work throughout, a wine cellar, and an outdoor living area that would satisfy any host.  Car enthusiasts will love the multiple garages with space enough for 10 cars! The home is listed for sale by Kirk Lewis of HomeCity, Inc.
