We hold Dr. James Gaines in very high regard here at Mission Mortgage. As a research economist for Texas A&M, Dr. Gaines has been instrumental in providing us with the data and analysis we need to properly prepare for the Texas real estate market. In particular, our Director of Business Development, Mark Sprague, has followed Dr. Gaines closely while staying on top of the critical issues facing our industry.
What a pleasant surprise it was for us when Dr. Gaines turned the tables and quoted Mark Sprague at his most recent presentation in Austin. On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 Dr. Gaines spoke to the Austin Mortgage Bankers Association and Mark Sprague was in attendance. The topic of Generation Y was presented and information for that portion of Dr. Gaines speech came from Mark Sprague’s weekly newsletter, The Mission Statement! Mark has recently written about how the behaviors and attitudes of those in Generation Y are fundamentally different from previous generations and those differences are having an impact on the housing market, locally and nationally. Those in Generation Y, also called Echo Boomers, have a stronger desire to live close-in, even if that means they need to rent longer. They put off marriage and having children for longer than previous generations have, which are key triggers to home buying. Representing such a large portion of the population, the behaviors of those within Generation Y are having an impact on us all.
Dr. Gaines took a moment to thank Mark during the presentation and later sent an email to show further appreciation for the information that Mark has been producing. In that email, Dr. Gaines says, “Thanks Mark…keep that good stuff you do coming.” The recognition from a widely hailed expert economist shows us that the information we provide at Mission Mortgage is valuable.
