Four Things To Do In Austin This Week

This feature highlights four events or activities in Austin and the surrounding area every week.  If you have suggestions for events to be mentioned, please email them to info@missionmortgage.com.

1. The Home and Garden show returns to the Austin Convention Center this weekend where you can listen to experts discuss everything from home improvements to landscaping. Kevin O’Connor from This Old House and Frank Fontana from Design on a Dime will be there. Click here for more information.

2. FronteraFest kicks off this weekend and goes through February 12. For those who enjoy live theater, the festival presents new works in a variety of venues. We recommend The Short Fringe on Saturday nights for 4 or 5 short plays, featuring the juried “Best of the Week” at the Hyde Park Theatre. For the entire festival lineup and information, click here.

3. The NFL playoffs are in full swing and we recommend hitting one of the many local sports bars to enjoy the action. Will Brady’s Patriots beat the Jets? Head to Third Base on 6th Street to find out. Can Green Bay beat the Falcons? Find out at Doc’s Backyard. Watch Baltimore take on Pittsburgh at The Tavern.

4. For some great live music, this week we recommend The Austin Symphony playing Dvorak’s New World Symphony on Friday and Saturday, Alpha Rev at the Parish on Friday, and The Black and White Years at Antone’s next Wednesday.
