This feature highlights four events or activities in Austin and the surrounding area every week. If you have suggestions for events to be mentioned, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As we know many people are not working tomorrow, December 31, we are providing a Special Early Release of this week’s suggestions. Mission Mortgage is open for business as usual on December 31 and can be reached at 512.328.0400.
1. New Year’s Eve celebrations in the 512 include events at the Seaholm Power Plant with N.A.S.A. and Ladytron and Austin Music Hall featuring Cake. For a slightly less rowdy crowd, consider a special presentation of When Harry Met Sally at the Alamo Ritz.
2. Winter weather in Austin is mild comparatively, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get outside for some ice skating. The outdoor rink is open at Whole Foods Market at 6th and Lamar for hour-long sessions that include skate rentals. For more information, click here.
3. Sports fans should consider Sunday’s Austin Toros basketball game versus Tulsa at the Cedar Park Center. The Toros are a part of the NBA Development Program known as the D-League and they are the San Antonio Spurs’ affiliate in the league. Click here for more information about the team and to purchase tickets.
4. It’s Free Week for a number of Austin’s best live music venues this week starting Saturday. Check out free shows at Mohawk, Red 7, Emo’s, Beerland, and the Parish. We recommend Zest of Yore at Red 7 on Monday, Stereo is a Lie at The Parish on Tuesday, and Quiet Company at Emo’s on Wednesday.
Happy New Year everyone! Please be safe while you enjoy your holiday celebrations. See you in 2011!
