Is That Really True? Check it on Snopes.com

Every now and then, we come across a website that we just have to share. Previously, we posted about a site where you can check to see which social networking and email sites are having technical difficulties (click here to see the previous post).  Today, we are sharing a site that we use to verify or nullify just about every chain email we read…

If you believed every email and website you’ve ever seen then:
• You would have a large sum of money from a Nigerian prince waiting for you to claim.
• You could forward emails to earn free money from Microsoft and AOL.
• Your cell phone is about to be used by telemarketers unless you stop them.
• You’ve won money in a foreign lottery and just need to respond to claim.
• You can make money just by posting links on the internet (or stuffing envelopes).

For all the wonderful benefits that the internet provides us, it also brings out numerous scams and con artists. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

But, to be sure, we recommend the website www.snopes.com. This website provides a description of the offer and whether or not it’s deemed to be true.  It even provides some history, when known. Best of all, you can search the site.  Here are a couple of screenshots from www.snopes.com:

When in doubt, check it out. Use www.snopes.com to find out what’s real and what’s not.
