Four Things To Do In Austin This Week

Austin MuralThis feature highlights four events or activities in Austin and the surrounding area every week.  If you have suggestions for events to be mentioned, please email them to

1.  It’s Halloween weekend, so we’ve got to recommend a haunted house, right?  We suggest the House of Torment at Highland Mall, open 7 pm to midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Click here for more information including pricing.

2.  For a less-frightening affair, try Spooktacular at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum where Blue Lapis Light will perform their aerial dance show. This family-oriented event will feature crafts, trivia, spooky tours, a costume contest, and more.  Details can be found by clicking here.

3.  Of course, the Alamo Drafthouse is getting into the spirit. We suggest seeing The Shining at Alamo Ritz starring Jack Nicholson at his demented best. “Here’s Johnny!”  In our opinion, this is still one of the best scary movies of all time.  See the Alamo website for info.

4.  Great music in town this week as well. I’ll be at Stubb’s on both Friday and Saturday nights for two shows by STS9. Other recommendations include John Fullbright at the Cactus Café on Friday, Galactic at Stubb’s on Sunday, and Sarah McLachlan at the Austin Music Hall on Wednesday. I love Austin.
