Four Things To Do In Austin This Week

This feature highlights four events or activities in Austin and the surrounding area every week. If you have suggestions for events to be mentioned, please email them to

1. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) of Austin is hosting their 24th annual Austin Homes Tour this weekend from noon until 6 pm both days. This self-guided tour of 12 architecturally significant homes is a hit with designers, architects, engineers, and realtors. See the latest trends in design and layout. See the official website for all the details.

2. While UT suffered an unexpected loss last week, they are back in action in a huge matchup against rival Oklahoma in the “Red River Shootout” on Saturday. If you didn’t score tickets to the game in Dallas, you can watch the game on the big screens at Alamo Drafthouse Lake Creek and Alamo Drafthouse Village. Doors at 1:30 pm. See the Alamo website for more info.

3. Dog lovers will enjoy Dogtoberfest on Sunday benefiting Blue Dog Rescue, an organization that fosters strays until they can be permanently placed through adoption. This 10th annual event will feature a walk at 9 am followed by a flea market (pun intended) with arts, crafts, gifts, live music, food and drinks at the Ghost Room starting at 11 am. Click here for all the details.

4. For those with kiddos, the Austin Steam Train Association is hosting their once-a-year celebration starring Thomas the Train at the Burnet Community Center. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
