Austin Ranks in Quality of Life, Brains, and More

A new study by Metro Rankings covers everything from economic growth to motion picture industry impact.  Austin showed up on three different lists within the survey, placing 1st for Quality of Life, 1st for Renewable Energy Availability, and 2nd for Greenest Cities. With a strong curbside single-stream recycling program and innovative builders incorporating solar power into their new construction, it is apparent that Austin is leading the way in creating a more sustainable community.




Austin One of America’s Brainiest Places

In another recent top 10 list, looked at American cities and ranked them based upon the percentage of the population with college degrees, based upon data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. Given the number of high quality institutions and the influx of educated software and web engineers, it is no surprise to see Austin within the top 10. Austin placed 6th on the list with a reported 38.7% of our residents having earned a college degree. Here is the the complete top 10 with the percentage of residents with a college degree:

  1. Washington          47.3%
  2. San Francisco      43.5%
  3. San Jose, CA        43.2%
  4. Raleigh, NC          42.2%
  5. Boston                   42.2%
  6. Austin                   38.7%
  7. Minneapolis         37.6%
  8. Denver                 37.6%
  9. Seattle                  37.4%
  10. New York            35.6%
