Four Things To Do In Austin This Week

This feature highlights four events or activities in Austin and the surrounding area every week. If you have suggestions for events to be mentioned, please email them to

1. Since Stone Temple Pilots postponed their Saturday show at the Backyard, we recommend seeing local up-and-coming artist Kat Edmonson at the Cactus Cafe. She will be performing Monday and Tuesday evening. Click here for more details.

2. The Pecan Street Festival will offer arts, crafts, music, food and more this weekend on 6th street. The weather report says the rains and clouds should clear out of the area, so head out to enjoy some sunshine after a week of gray skies. For festival information click here.

3. So you think you can dance? Open auditions for dancers in the new Richard Linklater film (starring Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine) will be held Saturday at Zach Theater. Must be 13 and up and have previous dance experience to audition. Send name, phone number, head shot, and resume to for an audition slot.

4. Hear PEN/Hemingway Award winner Joshua Ferris talk about his new book, The Unnamed, at BookPeople on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm. You can pick up a copy and have him autograph it at the event. Signed books make great gifts! Click here for more information.
