This entry is the fourth in our category called “Austin Gems” (see the side bar on the right). Of course you should visit the Texas State Capitol Building, but there’s much more to Austin than that. The places featured in this category are lesser known highlights that we believe every Austinite should do at least once in their lives.
With the 2010 Austin City Limits Music Festival now less than two months away, residents throughout Austin are scanning the schedule and trying to choose the bands they hope to see (thanks, by the way, to the organizers for switching the schedule so that we can now all see both Broken Bells and The Black Keys). But while we are excited about the lineup, let’s not forget about the incredible food that is available at this weekend showcase. One of the crowd favorites every year is Hudson on the Bend’s Mighty Cones, which will often draw long lines of hungry festival denizens seeking these delicious, easy-to-eat treats.
But, here’s the thing. While you can’t go to Hudson’s location on RR620 to feast on these cones, you can visit their trailer, year-round, on South Congress to enjoy these tasty hand-held wonders without standing in a half-mile long line. Used to be you could only get these cones once a year during ACL Fest. Now, they’ve made it TOO easy to enjoy them anytime. If you haven’t had one, you are in for a pleasant surprise. If, like me, you make sure you get one every year at the festival, you’ll love the fact that you can beat the rush and go get one today. We recommend the Chicken in a Cone, with Avocado. And a side cone of fries.
Visit the Mighty Cone trailer at 1603 S. Congress. You won’t be disappointed.
